Written on March 23, 2009 Toledo Blade reports that companies involved in alternative energy have been setting up shop in Toledo, Ohio. Toledo’s nonprofit Regional Growth Partnership has provided financing to at least seven start-ups through its venture capital arm, Rocket Ventures. Innovative Thin Films, on the other hand, have developed a coating process that reduces the need to clean solar panels. Permalink • What do you think? Ontario Paying Big for Small-Scale Renewable Energy

Back in 2007, the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) looked like it was setting a wonderful green precedent when it adopted a feed-in tariff for renewable energy. This allowed people who had adopted their own forms of renewable energy systems, like solar panels and wind turbines , to sell their excess power to the OPA at a set rate over a certain time period. Unfortunately, the OPA was accused by solar advocacy groups of setting the price too low and consequently failing to encourage the growth of

How to Make Electricity From Wasted Energy

Energy efficiency is low hanging fruit in the clean energy movement. Low-grade waste heat may not have the allure of shiny solar panels or a row of wind turbines, but it presents an opportunity that is too good for Michael Newell, CEO of Ener-G-Rotors to pass up. The company is developing a product that generates electricity from low-grade waste heat. “We are making electricity from a free fuel and not using a fossil fuel,” Michael Newell said this week in an interview with TriplePundit. “

Easy To Install Solar Panels Are City Friendly and Affordable

Solar start-up Veranda Solar wants to change the world of solar power the way Apple changed computers. Veranda got a big head-start on financing the start-up when the company was awarded 100,000€ as runner-up in the PICNIC Green Challenge, funded by the Dutch postcode lottery. The solar panels Veranda uses are nothing special. The prototypes were developed in cooperation with Stanford University and SunPower Corp. No new photovoltaic advances, no biomimicry. But these solar panels are offeri

Wind and Solar Power Estimation Activities

SEREF, the Solar Energy Research and Education Foundation, has built a couple of tools that could be of interest to science teachers. SEREF has an energy estimation tool that allows you to estimate the potential solar and wind energy of any location. To use the estimation tool you have to enter your location using a Google Map and input the size of the solar panels or wind turbine stucture. The potential energy is then calculated based on climate, latitude, and typical weather patterns. SEREF h
